How To Attract Women After Divorce

By Kimberly Seltzer

Dating after divorce can seem overwhelming. It may have been a decade or more since you’ve been “out there,” and you may feel confused or downright clueless about how to get your game back to attract new women into your world. Though you may feel nervous at first, you may find that it is even easier than before because you are now older, wiser and closer to knowing what you want. You just need a few tools to use to attract that perfect woman.

Overall, the secret to attracting anyone in your life is feeling good about yourself and projecting it outward. Here are answers to some commonly asked dating questions:

What should I wear on a date?

If a man is wearing something he feels good in, he is going to come across as a confident, successful alpha man, which is what women like. Wear clothes that are:

• Updated, stylish, comfortable and that fit your body well

• Those you wish you could wear every day

• Age and occasion appropriate

• Really express your personality

• Clean, well pressed and in good condition

• Colors that flatter your skin tone

• Polished, updated shoes

• Quality fabrics that don’t cling, pucker or pull

You may want to find a stylist or a savvy female friend to help guide you.

What about hygiene?

Grooming is extremely important, as women really pay attention to this. Your ex-wife might have forgiven the over-grown and unruly hairs but it is not so appealing to a new prospective mate. Make sure your facial hair is neatly groomed, your hair is styled, your nails are short and your skin looks nice. It helps if you smell nice too. Don’t pour the bottle of cologne on or you’ll suffocate her. Instead, you should smell fresh and clean with maybe a dab of tasteful cologne. Women like men who take care of themselves.

How should I approach women?

Most men feel uncomfortable when first approaching an attractive woman. This usually stems from being nervous about saying the wrong thing and fear of rejection. Get out of your head. Just be in the moment and talk with her. Don’t just talk about yourself. Ask questions about her life. One common mistake is trying too hard and being very serious when talking with women. It can almost feel more like an interview with memorized canned questions rather than an easy conversation. Be more playful and mix it up a bit to enjoy the new you and you’ll see how easy it is to create attraction. Most women love when you give them attention, especially if you say things in an authentic way. The truth of the matter is that your “dating muscle” is atrophied after not using it for a while, so you have to exercise it and get it back in action. One way to do this is to get comfortable approaching everyone when you are out and about. Approach at least three people (both men and women) a day during your daily routine. Give compliments to people you meet. Women love when you notice something about them. After doing several approaches a day, it will get a lot easier and feel more natural.

How can I build a new social circle?

It is true that you did a lot of “married” activities with your ex-wife as a couple. Often your friends change as you step into the single world. Not only do you do things solo, but different activities may interest you now. The most important thing is to find other single friends you can do things with. It will open up your world and create new possibilities for meeting women. Explore several avenues by getting involved in networking groups, single events, outdoor group gatherings, regular trips to the gym and more. If you are having a difficult time knowing what to get involved in, think about three skills or hobbies you have or want to learn more about and research groups that relate to them. Discover what makes you tick and you’ll build your social circle with other like-minded singles.

How can I overcome the divorce stigma?

Men often think they are painted with a scarlet letter once they are divorced. Actually, many women say that they prefer a divorced man because they like the fact that he has been in a long term relationship before and knows how to share with a partner. Marriage teaches you how to compromise, how to be more giving and how to understand women’s needs. Just because you are divorced doesn’t mean you have some sort of disease. Remember, over 50 percent of the population is in the same boat, so you are not alone. Instead, own who you are and enjoy your newfound freedom. This is your time to start over, enjoy yourself and have fun.

Although starting over can be intimidating and a little scary, it can actually be freeing and exciting as you embark upon a new adventure. This is your chance to explore the world and meet various women. By doing this, you’ll discover who you are separate from the woman you were with for many years and find out what you would like and need in a future relationship. Remember, the dating road is not a dead end; it’s an avenue to an exhilarating new journey.

5 Mistakes Women Make When Dating after Divorce

By Terri Sloane

You just nibbled through an entire bar of dark chocolate. Your divorce papers are finally signed. You are 55, single and thinking about dating. The last time you had a first date, you wore jackets with shoulder pads and permed your hair. You are “out there” again, and the dating world has changed a lot since the eighties.

I’m divorced too and can empathize. Put down the chocolate; it really isn’t so bad out there. According to a recent article on Match.com, single boomers over fifty years old are enjoying the benefits of their new status. Seventy-five percent of women and 81 percent of men say that they are experiencing dating success. My advice is to get out there, but avoid these common mistakes I see women make after divorce.

Dating too soon after the divorce: I learned this lesson early. I only dated because my ex had a girlfriend, and it was my way to personally retaliate. Who did it hurt? Me! I was a dating disaster since I wasn’t truly ready. Starting to date again can be an overwhelming experience. My self-esteem was damaged and I felt stuck. I needed to work through my personal issues before I could be successful in dating. Fortunately, I had the help of a wonderful professional counselor who helped me move forward. Many women go straight to their girlfriends for advice on dating and relationships when a professional source is needed. An unbiased professional -- someone who sees issues objectively -- is a better choice. A coach will tell you the truth about your readiness to date. A well-meaning friend may not be so honest. My advice is, before you join the dating boomers, seek out professional help from a trained counselor or coach like myself. In this case, you need a coach more than you need to eat another chocolate bar with a girlfriend!

Being afraid to go solo: Solo is the way to go when you are looking to meet someone to date. Although we love being with our girlfriends, constantly traveling with a group of gal pals is a recipe for disaster. I know it takes time to feel comfortable traveling alone, so you need to practice. I suggest taking a class, going to a show, concert, movie or opera alone. Take yourself out for dinner and sit near the bar area. If you’re feeling confident, have dinner at the bar. If you spot someone of interest, catch his eye for a few seconds and smile. Perhaps he will come over and introduce himself. If he doesn’t, count it as practice. A woman alone is approachable, confident and mysterious. The more you practice going out alone, the easier it is. I tell clients, if you want to meet an interesting man, be an interesting woman. Remember, men are attracted to women who are independent and fun -- women who have interesting lives of their own.

Being someone other than your “genuine self” on a first date: Talking about work may feel safe, but it’s not a good first date conversation. If you had a bad day, stay home unless you can bring a positive, approachable attitude along. Before going out, I put on some upbeat or romantic music, dance by myself in my home and think happy thoughts. I leave my past in the past. If you don’t have time to go home prior, dress for work in something “dateable” like a wrap dress, a pencil skirt, or a fabulous sweater or satin blouse that makes you feel pretty. Focus on a positive mood, be aware of your posture and stand tall. Add your favorite perfume, freshen your makeup and hair and smile. Your smile is always your most important beauty accessory and a welcoming appearance enhancer.

Breaking plans to date: It’s a mistake to break plans with girlfriends or alter your schedule if dating conflicts occur. Men don’t change their schedules and you shouldn’t either. Do keep doing what you enjoy and incorporate new experiences into a broadening social scene. I attend movie classes alone and add new classes each year to my schedule, no matter what is going on in my life. Men are attracted to women who have a vibrant life and who take care of themselves outside and inside. They will only like you more. Always nurture your spirit and do things that give yourself pleasure.

Burning bridges if you don’t feel “sparks": Chemistry is elusive as you date. Be patient. Recently I went on a date and had a great evening, but there were no sparks. So what? I decided to accept a second date because we had fun together. Unfortunately, there is still no chemistry. My advice to my “dating self” was to make my date into my friend. The suggestion may offend some men, but take the opportunity to be good company. I know from experience that some men are happy with this idea. Men enjoy the companionship of a woman. There is no pressure; just friendship. Try it. You may be surprised with the results. What can start out as a friendship may even turn into romance. Sparks can disappear, but friendship is forever.

Remember, this is your time. Learn from the mistakes others have made and travel smoothly as you begin dating after divorce.

Three Ways Women Fail at Dating

On a recent episode of the weekly dating advice show Planet Love Match Radio, author and love stylist Tristan Coopersmith examined three of the most common mistakes single women make in their love lives. Coopersmith explained that the dating traps women fall into are: being unrealistic, sharing too much information too soon, and “fast-forward” dating.

Setting lofty, unrealistic goals has some single women feeling dating frustration. "I think the biggest mistake that women do in dating… and I blame Walt Disney for this, is looking for the fairytale, looking for Prince Charming," Coopersmith says. She adds that having a list of wants and needs is great; however, projecting a future that plays like a movie puts added pressure on a relationship that hasn’t even started yet. “Looking for perfection, it’s just not going to happen. Be realistic,” she states.

Employing her many years of experience, Coopersmith has found a distinctive approach to love. Working as a “love stylist” she is neither a matchmaker nor wing girl; more of a teacher and guide. She focuses on her clients’ own strengths, concentrating on getting them to let go of the baggage and learn positive dating techniques that will allow them to find happiness and love. Her overall approach is helping confused singles see their relationships through clear eyes. She runs a successful blog and has added author to her credentials with her book, “Menu Dating: Taste Test Your Way to the Main Course.”

“Fast-forward” dating can be another mistake for some singles. "For example, a woman will be on a first date with a guy and it’s the second course… and she’s already calculating ’Could he be an awesome dad?’ ’I wonder if he’ll want to go to my cousin’s wedding next year?’ While all that the man is thinking is, ‘Has she drank enough to come home with me?’ I believe that the guy is much more realistic at that moment, because you don’t even know each other,” she states.

Coopersmith further contends that the projection of this “fast-forward” fantasy can lead to dating disillusionment. “Fast-forwarding is why I believe women get so disappointed – they’ve already married the guy,” she concludes.

Sharing an excessive amount of personal details is another error Coopersmith feels single women are making. While she believes that it is important for a love interest to get to know the real you over time, sharing too much at the beginning of a relationship can sabotage its initial growth.

“Women can come off as crazy," she explains. "You don’t want to share that you go to a therapist every week. Therapy is great, I’m studying it, it’s awesome, but you don’t need to put that out there on the first date."

She suggests that daters should talk about the movies, music, or places they might like to travel – things that everyone can relate to. “You always want to come off as nice and light, no one wants a second date with someone with lots of baggage," she finishes.

Desperately Seeking Meaning

Women come to me all the time for relationship advice, as I have been married three times (well, technically four -- I don’t count the annulment) and dated hundreds of men. I try to explain that this is not a badge of honor; if you want relationship advice, go to someone who married her college boyfriend and is still married to him 30 years later.

Be that as it may, there are many women out there who, at 50-something, are dipping a wary toe into the brave new world of online dating. Having spent the majority of the past two decades single and available, I watched online dating mature from “last resort of the desperate” to “harmless fun for married men” to “the road to romance in a high-tech world.” I assume this is an improvement, although I cannot guarantee it.

Fact is, once we’re out of college and increasingly out of the traditional workplace in favor of isolated home offices, there aren’t many other ways to meet men. I don’t know about you, but I’m just not out clubbing as much as I once was.

Here, then, is some hard-won wisdom and a few shards of jaded attitude. It is my experience that the internet dating code has become, in a word, codified. Back when we were buying expensive newsprint real estate (remember newsprint?) for the personals, it was all about abbreviations like SWF and BBW. Now it’s all in the translation.

Some of the code words are obvious: Cuddly = Fat. Searching for my Soulmate = Stalker. Some are more subtle. Here are a few of Ethlie’s Tips for Online Dating, Over 50 Edition.

1. First, check the stats. Deduct two inches from his height and $30,000/year from his stated income. Then add 10 years to his age. Women, by the way, usually only shave off five years. Men tend to be deluded about the youthfulness of their appearance. I blame shaving mirrors: If they can’t see the bald spot and beer belly, they assume you can’t, either.

2. Next, look at the photo itself. No photo means he’s either married or Quasimodo. Odds are he’s not Quasimodo. The headgear is your first tell. Unless he’s actually riding a horse, any man wearing a cowboy hat is bald. Also, do not expect him to go to a chick flick with you (any movie without explosions is a chick flick) or to cook indoors. If he’s wearing a cowboy hat and standing next to a truck, he’s bald and he drinks. If he’s wearing a cowboy hat and standing next to a Harley, he’s bald, drinks, and will cheat on you.

Unless he’s actually playing baseball, any man wearing a baseball cap is also bald. If he’s wearing a baseball cap, a sport coat and gym shoes, do not expect him to pick up the check.

3. If he’s posed next to a sports car, he is insecure about his manhood and will hit on your sister. If he’s posed next to a Hummer, he’s insecure about his manhood and will hit you. If he’s in a motorboat, expect a commitment-phobe. If he’s in a sailboat, expect a neat freak -- unless it’s a catamaran, in which case send him over to me.

4. Next, look at the way he describes himself. If he’s a “good listener,” he’s a wimp; you’ll be choosing the restaurant. If he’s “down to earth,” he’s cheap; you’ll be going Dutch. If he’s “a great kisser,” he’s oversexed; expect to fight him off after dinner.

5. “Adventurous” means kinky. “Sensual” means kinky. “Open-minded” means kinky. “Worldly” means kinky. “Sophisticated” means kinky. “Kinky” means not only is he kinky, but he overshares.

6. “Wants to spoil you” means he’s looking for someone his daughter’s age, D-cup or better. “Generous” means he’s looking for someone younger than his daughter, DD-cup or better. “Outdoorsy” means he doesn’t own a good suit. “Athletic” means he spends his Sundays in front of the television. So does “I’m not the kind of guy who spends his Sundays in front of the television.”

7. Watch out in particular for buzzwords that men think women like. “A gentleman” is a misogynist in a dress shirt. “A romantic” is a serial dater with a bouquet. “Spiritual” means he can barely earn enough to feed himself. And “sensitive”... well, sensitive means he isn’t really looking for someone like you. He’s really looking for someone like him. You know, someone with a penis.

Why Is It So Hard To Score?

By Denise Ryan, Vancouver Sun

The women at the back table of the Bottleneck bar on Granville Street are a cluster of long locks, funky accessories, a mix of tanned and fair, naturally athletic bodies and discreetly dabbed lip gloss. The conversation about the impossibility of finding man-love in Lotus Land ricochets between raucous laughter and thoughtful reflection until the table goes silent and the subject finally sinks, like a stone thrown in an impossibly dark wishing well.

“This is not a lighthearted issue,” says Jodi Derkson. “There is a serious problem here.”

This is Vancouver, the women explain, in conversational shorthand that speaks volumes about the city’s widely-perceived shortcomings for straight daters. (Same-sex dating in Vancouver has its own set of opportunities and challenges that warrants a whole other article.)

For many singles, the stepping stones to love’s distant shore are broken or missing — the appreciative or inviting smiles, casual conversations struck up on street corners, in bars, restaurants, grocery lineups and online dating offer only a small pool of confused and confusing possibilities.

“I don’t know what the problem is here,” says Jody Radu. At 46, Radu is tall and graceful with a sweet smile and a sexy rock-chic style. Radu has been married once, has no kids, and a career in the entertainment industry that brings her into daily contact with some of music’s biggest artists. She’s happy with her life. Not jaded, no hard edges, no obvious baggage. But when it comes to a real, satisfying relationship — lover, boyfriend, partner — there’s a gap.

It’s mystifying.

“I’ll talk to anyone, I’ve been online, tried all the websites, I make allowances, too. I’ve been attracted to people that didn’t fit my ‘type’: maybe someone’s not good on the phone, maybe they’re not good on email, maybe it just wasn’t a good photo. Maybe the chemistry will be there in person.”

For all her efforts online, there has been a zero compatibility outcome. For a lark one night, she posted a personal ad on Craigslist. The next morning she had dozens of replies. She followed up with email contact. Most of the guys wanted her photo before going further. Once they saw it, their pictures started coming in. Radu shakes her head. “The guys were delusional. An out-of-shape 60-year-old? No thanks.”

For the last few months, since Vancouver magazine ran the first-names-only article “Do Vancouver Men Suck?” (“Yes” was the only answer that could be read between the lines), the question has hung over Vancouver’s dating scene like a pall. Even before the article ran, women were, well, bitching. “My friends and I talk about this all the time,” says Radu. For the record, she says, “I don’t think Vancouver men suck. They could dress a little better, though.”

So, why is it so hard to meet someone in Vancouver? Is it geography? Is it part of the city’s identity that the dating scene is as tricky to negotiate as its landscape, divided by waterways and forbidding mountains?

Is it the way the city is spread out and shuts down early, its denizens more likely to rise at dawn to pound up the North Shore mountains on their bikes before work than lie in and roll over for a little good morning sex?

Is it our ethnic enclaves that divide us?

Is it seasonal affective disorder, a collective low libido?

“There is a lack of sexuality in Vancouver,” says Derkson, bluntly. Derkson is petite, tanned, toned, with a bright smile: her nails are done, her hair is thick and full. She looks like she’s got a personal groomer on call.

At 47, Derkson has no kids, and has never been married — nor is she desperate to get hitched. She’d be happy with just a little more warmth and sensuality. A little response. “No one smiles at you on the street here! People are cold.”

While living in Florida a few years ago, she was turning men away.

“I think the Latin culture in Florida really helps; people are warm, men smile at you on the street. They look at you. Men here, they don’t even turn their head to look at you.”

Back in Vancouver, she just wishes that when she smiles at someone on the street, they would smile back.

Rachel Fox, a 34-year-old writer, says her experiences of meeting men in other cities, like New York, where she used to live, are incredibly different than in Vancouver: “The pool is a lot bigger there. I was dating every night.”

Fox has an endearing, girl-next-door vibe: Zooey Deschanel with a healthy scoop of irreverent wench. “People here are inhibited,” she says. “We are ghettoized, we don’t intermingle and the landscape isn’t conducive to community.”

Sara Stocksand, 38 years old and single for a few years, isn’t afraid to say she wants the whole package, including marriage and children.

She also finds it easier to connect outside of Vancouver: she met her most recent love interest at a wedding in France.

Although she works at the Bottleneck and comes in contact with a great number of men, she finds most her age are married.

With a history of committed monogamous relationships, she finds Vancouver’s dating culture challenging compared to other cities, like New York, where she has had more success.

Guys have a hard time, too

Ron Lee, 36, a marketer who ran a dating coaching service for many years in Vancouver, agrees that it’s tough to make a connection in this city.

“Vancouver is the hardest city to date in in North America. We have no dating culture here. In Edmonton, Toronto, Calgary there is a much higher chance that people will come out just to meet you for a coffee, just for the social aspect. Because Vancouver doesn’t have that dating mechanism, it’s awkward for people to ask each other out.”

Many of the men he’s worked with find Vancouver women to be intimidating.

Sebastien Lessard, 37, who came to Vancouver from Quebec City seven years ago, can attest to the intimidation factor. “This is typical of a woman’s online profile: here’s a picture of me on top of a mountain, here’s one of me winning an award, here’s me in Vegas. It’s like, wow, don’t you ever sit on a patio and have a beer or hang out and cook a meal? I’m not even going to contact you because I’m too ordinary.”

Lessard may see himself as ordinary, but he’s got a great dating resume: A stable career that allows him to work from home, a funky casual style, is open to having kids and if you have kids, that’s okay too. He’s dated five years younger than his age, and up to 15 years older. Throw in the French accent and the wry sense of humour, and Lessard just might be the total package. But he gets frustrated sometimes.

“Some women here have a really unrealistic vision of what a man is supposed to be. They don’t accept that men are what they are; the women have been burned a couple of times, they’ve read all the articles, they have a checklist: uh oh, he didn’t shave for three days. That means something. They believe their own conclusions about what a good guy is and what non-relationship material is; some weird criteria.”

Kevin Quinlan, whose job as director of policy and communication for Mayor Gregor Robertson keeps him on call, even when he’s on a date, says he doesn’t buy into the idea that Vancouver is the problem.

“Vancouver is an incredibly diverse place. Generalizations obscure the fact that there are so many people with different interests. I don’t think it’s fair or accurate to blame the city. If someone turns you down, just don’t take it personally. It’s not realistic to expect instant gratification leading to lifelong fulfilment from everybody you meet.”

He is also totally comfortable dating across all ethnicities.

Quinlan, who has recently found a girlfriend, has a few quirks, like reciting the lyrics to ‘90s gangsta rap songs, but he doesn’t put it all out there on a first date.

He has a dapper geek-chic style: suits and chunky glasses, but it wasn’t always that way. “I had years of the sloppy unkempt look. I’m living proof that people can change.”

Shauna Miller, 37, a registered nurse, is taking a break from dating to do some soul searching about what she wants. She doesn’t blame the city for not making a connection. “I’d really like to be in a relationship,” she says. Miller is a little shy, and doesn’t like to approach people, but she’s fully confident in the online universe, and it’s not unusual for her to have several dates a week, when she’s in the mood.

“I think meeting and dating is just a hard thing. Blaming the city is an easy way of putting the onus on something else. It’s an easier way to take rejection.”

What are we doing wrong?

Sue Seminew, a professional high-end matchmaker in Vancouver, believes there are certain variables here that do add to the challenge.

“Our market is complex. Almost every major dating market has more women than men, and our city is visibly ethnic with a high representation among Asian and South Asian. Race is huge. Compared to Montreal and Toronto, our downtown is small. We also tend to discount the outlying areas. We were recently ranked the worst-looking city in terms of dress. Both men and women can look like crap, with both parties guilty of judging and misinterpreting.”

Seminew counsels singles to “think outside of the box.”

“Women are voting the Asian men off the island. Women that are open about race are going to be more successful here.”

Turning away from blue collar is another mistake. Vancouver is not a head-office power centre. “We can’t invent a white-collar population. Women may have to date men that aren’t at financial parity with them. Men have been doing that for years.”

Stepping outside the small boundaries of Vancouver’s downtown scene is also important. “Men in Whistler look rough and tumble, but all they need is a little fairy dust. I suggest people look in Burnaby, Whistler, Squamish. All the boys need some work, but we can impart that.”

Seminew cites demographics as part of the problem. “In a lot of major markets there are two-, three-, four-, five-per-cent more women. That’s not just Vancouver, but the discrepancy is higher here than in some other cities.”

If we can’t change the city, and don’t want to leave the city, what do we do? Start talking to strangers, says Seminew. Get past the “frosty factor.” Talk to someone in the elevator. And if they shut you down? “Be nice.”

Lee, who still hasn’t met the right woman, in spite of making a career out of helping others find partners, says, “Relax and start questioning what it is that you are looking for, and what will make you happy.”

Dating and Relating

Things happen very fast in the current generation. Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, there is a good reason why top chefs do not prepare elegant meals in a microwave. Clearly one of our issues on campus is the sometimes frantic pace with which we build relationships. There is no one to blame for the demise of the dating ritual on this campus. It is what it is. In my curiosity to understand why men and women have abdicated ownership of this social norm, I engaged ten students (5 women; 5 men) in single-sex conversations about their opinions around this issue. Although I cannot extrapolate these comments to all men and women on campus, this is what I discovered.

The women I talked with were unanimous in their belief that the Notre Dame environment is packed with pressure. They described the pressure to look a certain way (hair done, make-up on, never wear sweats) and to behave a certain way. “You always have to look as good as possible. Men talk about putting on their ‘ND goggles.’ I know a lot of beautiful girls on campus so I don’t understand how the men here can think that all of us are ugly.”

There is a belief that this creates an environment where women are willing to take any attention they can get from men, hook-up or otherwise. They compete against Notre Dame women out of the classroom and Notre Dame men in the classroom. “And we can’t forget about the pressure added by the presence of St. Mary’s students. You are fighting so much already, that the pressure really gets to you.” Some of the women said they felt stuck and wondered if coming to Notre Dame was a mistake. Others have decided to place relationship formation on hold, to wait until they leave Notre Dame to pursue this portion of life.

The women also talked explicitly about the dining hall as a source of stress and judgement. Whether it is the men who “moo” at those who get fro-yo, or the other women who meticulously watch what your plate looks like, the dining halls have contributed to a negative atmosphere where women don’t feel valued.

Many of the frustrations the men talked about revolved around the perennial issue of parietals. It is noted, however, that not every man interviewed had a negative view of this Notre Dame tradition. They also commented that differing expectations about the college experience is part of the problem. They believe that many women come to Notre Dame looking for committed relationships and others hope to achieve the coveted “ring by spring.” The men used the term “American Pie” to describe what the typical college man expected.

All the guys I talked with agreed with the notion that women have some pressure to always look good/perfect. They believe, however, that much of this pressure is either self-induced or imposed on women by other women. They also commented that when a woman receives a negative comment about her apparel, she may have the tendency to inflate the importance of that comment. In the end, they admitted that how a woman dresses does impact their impression of her, but added that the same is probably true from the other side.

Some of the men agreed with the notion that it might be better to wait until after college to focus on relationships. One stated that doing this now makes “girls panicky and guys frustrated.” One young man said eloquently that “doing a relationship the right way is not easy. It takes a great deal of effort and I would rather focus my attention on making sure my academics are in order. If you can get involved and do it the right way, go for it. But typically once two people get involved, it is only then that they realize how involved the process is.” In terms of waiting on romance, one young man commented that, “good things come to patient people.” Other common frustrations guys experience on campus include women who are “jersey chasers,” being trapped in the friend zone and the fact that when a certain type of athlete shows up at a party the game is over.

From what I can surmise, the issues presented here, while serious, are not insurmountable. It will just take authentic and honest communication. To that end I am inviting the ten individuals that offered their opinions for this editorial to join me for a meeting of the minds and some great food. This extended conversation will be the first of many and the topic of a future column. Until then talk to your friends about what you have read and decide if these comments ring true for you. I look forward to seeing you at the Notre Dating program tonight at 7 p.m. in Legends.

Website Focused On How to Attract A Girl

Date Hotter Girls, a leading men’s dating advice company, just announced the launch of a information site dedicated to helping men learn the intricacies of how to attract a girl.

The site, which went live, on March 19, has several free articles and tips that help demystify female attraction. The topic of how to attract a girl gets tens of thousands of search engine queries a month and is one that baffles many single men.

“It’s very counter-intuitive,” explains Rob Judge, founder of Date Hotter Girls. “So many men struggle to decode a woman’s behavior. Men often think too logically about attraction when they should be approaching it emotionally.”

Much of the advice on the site hinges of the theme of “emotional intelligence.” Judge believes that if men can better understand a woman’s emotions, he can learn to elicit those emotions in an attractive way.

“It you look at what interests women,” explains Judge, “So much of it is predicated on the emotions women derive from the things they enjoy—from what they eat to the shows they watch.”

Judge’s unorthodox philosophy has been a hot topic for both men and women. The blogger has been invited to participate in women’s panels on dating, often to give a man’s perspective on the dating game.

“I enjoy getting feedback from women,” explains Judge. “I don’t think any of the advice I give is shameful or weird. Most guys are proud to practice the tips they read on my blog and in my products.”

Though some female bloggers have responded with less than favorable reviews of Judge’s approach on dating. Recently a blogger writing for The Frisky wrote a scathing review of Judge’s “Top 10 Best Texts of All Time” report, claiming Judge was encouraging men to adopt a cookie-cutter approach to dating.

“There will always be critics,” laughs Judge. “I think the fact women bloggers have such a visceral reaction to my material sort of proves its effectiveness. I mean, I am telling guys to get women emotional.”

Rob Judge has spent the past 5 years teaching men to meet and attract women, both through products and live coaching.

Date Hotter Girls has released several books on meeting and attracting women. Magnetic Messaging is the latest release from Judge.

Women More Open Minded?

While everyone has their preferences about what they are attracted to, it seems as if women are more open minded than men. Even when we have the type that turns our head, a guy with a kind heart and great personality could definitely win us over.

When it comes things such as weight and height, some people stick to the same exact type. Just the other day, I asked my guy friend if he noticed that his last three serious romantic interests could be triplets, he looked at me like I had three heads! He didn’t even notice his pattern.

Maybe it’s just my circle of friends, but a quick mental run through of all the relationships and the women showed more “variety” then the men. In my completely unscientific poll, I can’t help but think this is related to being more open-minded.

Do you think women are open minded when it comes to picking dates, being attracted to all types, etc.?

Guys, have you noticed that you stick to a certain body type, look, or physical prototype when you decide who to pursue?

Women Take the Lead in Dating

With changing times, dating rules are also being re-written. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for a woman to ask a guy out. It also seems that when it comes to dating, women just love it. A British study has found women to be taking the lead when it comes to finding love, with one-fourth of them dating three or more men at the same time.

Research shows that the average single female is regularly seeing at least two prospective partners at one time, and they date five men a year, the Daily Express reported. Also, women are willing to spend money on paying the bills too.

According to the study, carried out by the restaurant chain TGI Friday, it’s only 18% of women that thought the man should pay during the date. Half of the male respondents agreed to that, saying that woman should either contribute or go halves.

Nearly a third of females said that traditional dating rules hardly apply anymore, with a quarter having asked a man out rather than waiting for the guy to make a move.

Also, one in four in a relationship would consider proposing, with nine in 10 men wanting their girlfriend to do so, according to the study. “With a growing number of economically independent woman who take their own decision, dating rules will change further in terms of equality,” says psychiatrist Dr Avdesh Sharma.

In Modern Valentine Quest, Dating Is Digital

Love’s labor is not lost -- at least, not online.

Dating for most people is now officially a digital endeavor, according to a study out just in time for Valentine’s Day. Commissioned by the Association for Psychological Science (APS), the 64-page report analyzed 400 psychology studies and public interest surveys and concluded that most romantic connections today are made online, second only to meeting through friends.

That may not be so surprising given the vicissitudes of trying to meet people by hanging out in the local coffee shack with your laptop, decked out in your favorite hipster attire. And the work place is no place to find a date since it’s fraught with potential political and ethical snags nowadays: Do I work for her? Does she work for me? Oh, forget it.

By many accounts -- including a personal survey of friends -- the online dating scene is a vibrant social milieu that no longer carries the stigma it once did. Back in the 90’s many friends would chide with, “What’s the matter? Couldn’t you meet anyone in a bar?” That’s when less than 1 percent of people met partners through online or offline personals.

By 2005, about 37 percent of single Americans had set up dates online. Today, about 40 million Americans visit online dating sites each month, roughly one in three relationships start online, and over 120,000 marriages a year were spawned on the Web (according to Online Dating Magazine).

Indeed, several friends admitted to me that they met their (current) wives online, a fact I didn’t know until I started researching for this column. So maybe there’s still something of a stigma attached to online attachments.

While people may be hooking up online more often, it isn’t due to any scientific or magic algorithms. The ASP study dismisses all such claims by dating sites, noting that there’s no objective evidence that they can do a better job finding a match using special software. One friend confirmed this, noting that he found big sites like Match.com “like going to the mall.” Maybe you’ll find the right person in the crowd, but there are more misses than hits.

And while I’ve met people who seem happy with eHarmony, others who’ve tried it found it “icky.” Many people recommend finding a smaller site that’s tailored to your particular interests, such as Nerve.com, or one based on a local community group.

Digital dating can yield successful long-term romantic relationships, according to the study, because the sites offer access and communication. There are several other reasons for a growing comfort level with these sites, I believe. The first is that the rejection takes place in advance and anonymously. You don’t have to know how many people have checked you out, and then dismissed you (much better than enduring insults at the bar).

The second attraction of digital dating is that it’s flexible. Busy this week? Contact them next week. Not comfortable having a thousand men pore over your profile? Go to HerWay.com where all the female profiles are hidden. The women go through the men’s profiles and then decide who to contact. It avoids the problem some women have experienced of being “carpet bombed” by contacts from men. HerWay.com claims that it is at least five times more likely that online daters will successfully connect when a woman initiates contact. No kidding.

The third reason this scene works is that it’s work. Filling out all that personal information, favorite songs, the three famous people from history you’d invite to dinner, etc., takes time and effort. So it’s a self-selecting, goal-oriented group. Of course, the differences between men and women aren’t erased by going online.

According to the APS report, a study of 6,485 users of a major dating site found that men viewed three times more profiles than women did. That fact underscores one potential pitfall of online dating: It can turn into online shopping. The researchers warn that this can make people overly “judgmental” and picky. (So what if she likes Adele; go with it.) They also warn that too much digital dialogue can kill the buzz by generating unrealistic expectations before you meet: “He was so attentive online, but now he hardly calls.”

Naturally, if you’re not looking for a serious relationship and want to find someone right this minute, there’s an app for that. At least two seem to be picking up, er, steam. Skout has 7 million members and works by introducing “like minded” singles to one another based on proximity. There’s also SinglesAroundMe, a similar, international location-based mobile app. Others are Blendr and Grindr.

As for dating sites, no matter what you do, “You have to be honest,” advises one woman who found her boyfriend of two years online. “You have to know what you want. And you have to know what you’ll give up to get it,” she told me. She and others also noted that you can ask some tough questions right up front, something you’d be unlikely to do face to face.

So now that online dating has gone mainstream, there’s no excuse not to get out there.

How seniors get their groove back

By Shelley Rossetter

As the sun sets on the golf course outside the Palm Court Café, the party inside has already started. The drinks are two for one. The music is blaring. A DJ plays the Cupid Shuffle and a dozen ladies rush to the dance floor. It’s 6 p.m. Do you know where your grandma is?

If she lives in the retirement community of Kings Point, she might be at this resident-only hot spot. Especially if she’s on a date. Or on the prowl.

With more than 5,000 unmarried residents, the dating scene in Sun City Center is far from dead.

But it can get a little interesting.

For every single man there are three single women, according to the 2010 Census. The average age is 74.

On Thursdays, a DJ plays music from 5 to 8 p.m. at the South Club’s cafe. And, according to residents, it’s one of the best places to meet new people in this usually quiet community.

Gracie Swagel, 66, met her boyfriend there.

One year ago today, a friend introduced her to Rick Razick Sr., 77.

“He was sitting at the bar,” Swagel said. “He brought me a rose and took me to dinner.”

Razick had seen her around the community before, but the retired Air Force pilot hadn’t been interested then.

“There were plenty of women here,” Razick said.

What changed?

“She got me hooked,” he said. “She’s very nice to me.”

For Swagel, a widower, it took a lot of courage to get back into dating.

“The whole world changes when you lose a spouse,” she said. “The hardest thing was to get started.”

The couple plan to have an early Valentine’s date to celebrate their anniversary.

“We don’t know how it will work out,” Swagel said, “but we are happy here and now.”

If it sounds a lot like dating anywhere else, that’s because it is, said Mary Haverstock, 79.

Haverstock’s husband passed away soon after they moved to Kings Point a decade ago.

Since then, she has learned a few things about dating as she ages.

The women are still the same.

“It’s very much like high school with the jealousy,” she said.

The men still have the ability to drive the women crazy.

“They are not that much different from when they were young,” she said.

What has changed? Dating becomes something you do for yourself again, she said. There are no parents to check in with or other people to worry about.

Haverstock loves dancing, so she often comes to the Palm Court Café on Thursdays and takes a few turns around the dance floor.

If a man catches her eye, at least she can see how he behaves before she agrees to go out with him.

“One of the nice things about it here is that you can meet men in a group setting,” she said. “If they are a gentleman, you learn that before you agree to a date.”

Bobbi Burnette, 55, agrees with the jealousy part. She moved to Kings Point with her husband when she was 53 and she says she was immediately lambasted because of her age.

“I moved here and the other women hated my guts,” she said.

She is now divorced. She quickly found that dating her neighbors wasn’t something she was interested in.

“A lot of the men are looking for a nurse or a purse,” she said. “I’m not either.”

Then there are the women so desperate to find a man in the unevenly split community that residents often refer to them as the “casserole brigade” in hushed tones.

“There are women who look in the newspapers to find out whose wife passed away,” Burnette said. “Then they’ll go bring him a casserole.”

Burnette is now dating a man who lives outside the community.

Jack Keller, 78, and Carol Carter, 71, met in Kings Point. Both have been married before. Keller is a widower and Carter a divorcee.

They try not to take things too seriously.

“We have a lot of fun together and we laugh,” Keller said.

They often go to the horse races or dancing. Sometimes Carter cooks.

“She puts a slug on a plate,” Keller joked.

He pursued her, attracted to her appearance and her kind nature, he said.

For Carter, it came down to one kiss.

“I kissed him, and when I kissed him, that was it.”

Need Backup at the Bar? You Can Now Hire a Wingman

Ladies (and gentlemen): take heed the next time you’re approached by an interested single at a bar. The attractive, overly complimentary friend he’s with might just be hired help.

According to the Wall Street Journal, hiring a professional “wingman” or “wingwoman” is a possible future of dating, with services having popped up all over the country.

While dating sites are often littered with profiles featuring outdated pictures or misleading information, Susan Baxter, founder of Hire a Boston Wingwoman, told the Journal that her service allows clients to see past initial judgments by meeting women in person. (Of course, by using a hired wingwoman, the client is being a bit misleading themselves.)

A $130 fee gets clients 2 hours of time with their Boston wingwoman, during which time she helps her shy client break the ice with women, facilitating conversation, and generally making them look good. The Hire a Boston Wingwoman website notes, “Men look that much more desirable when they are seen with an attractive lady by their side,” and that by having a woman start up the conversation it “will not give the appearance of ‘hitting on’ a woman of interest.”

The concept isn’t necessarily a bad one, though—having a friend help with easing into a conversation, and perhaps picking up knowledge about what women and men do and don’t respond to are all useful and helpful experiences.

Miss Pivot, a dating service based in Indianapolis, offers workshops, as well as a wingwoman (or “pivot,” as they call them) service. On the website, they address the million-dollar question: “Is your coaching like Hitch or Pick-Up Artist stuff?”

“While a great movie, Hitch is a Hollywood fantasy,” they write, citing the unrealistic idea of pursuing and dating just the one person on which the client is fixated. The Pick-Up Artist focuses too much on “short-term goals, canned lines, and the sexual side of relationships.”

Those with a crippling shyness or no idea how to approach someone who’s caught their eye might find that a professional confidence-booster (in the form of a wingperson) may be just the help they need. However, just in case their act slips up, he or she should hope their newfound love interest has a generous sense of humor.

The Value of Confident Persistence

By Allen Thompson

Maybe you’ve heard the stories. Perhaps it was a relative, or a friend, or maybe you were watching a late-night talkshow and some smashingly beautiful vixen was on telling how she and her husband met.

They’re so in love. They have the perfect marriage. They can’t imagine being apart from one another.

But it didn’t begin that way.

She wasn’t, actually, very interested in him when they first met.

But he pursued her, and he was relentless. It was months, maybe even years, before she finally cracked.

But she did crack. Fell head over heels in love with him... and they’ve been living in a dream world — Happily Ever After since.

How is this possible?

I mean have you not read, more than once probably, that a woman knows within minutes of meeting a man if she’s romantically interested in him or not. Does he not get put in the doable or dontable category immediately? Friend or lover? Hot or not?

How can she eventually fall for a man who she wasn’t immediately attracted to?

Well let me fill you in.

And this “filling in” is going to relate the very essence of being a Don Juan. The very core of becoming the kind of ladies man you’ve always wanted to be.

The key to women, the key to being surrounded by women, the key to being the envy of all your friends, and the key to being a Don Juan... is Confident Persistence.

Confident Persistence consists of deciding what you want, and going for it... and doing it with a smile, despite the numerous obstacles which you will most likely encounter along the way.

Obstacles could, for example, include things like: she doesn’t return your call, she breaks or reschedules the date, she doesn’t flirt with you or laugh at your jokes, she’s hard to talk to, she seems interested in someone else, and, in general, she doesn’t put herself out or go out of the way to convey that she’s interested in you.

In other words, the obstacles are simply how a girl would act who is not highly interested in you.

Now... when we speak of Confident Persistence, we’re mainly talking about women that don’t know you. Women you’ve just met. Or women that you’ve never spent any significant amount of time with. We’re not talking about women you’ve known (and had a crush on) for years.

We employ the techniques of Confident Persistence to get the initial interest up, to get her to relax and open up, to get the phone number, and to get the first date. Confident Persistence is not an excuse for you to continue pursuing a woman that you’re crazy about, but who knows you pretty well, and has no interest in you.

Now there are basically 2 ways to deal with the situation where you’re interested in a girl, but she’s not all that crazy about you.

1) You can give up, move on, next her! And look for someone who is more interested in you.

This is a popular strategy among men who are beginning to learn the “game.” It’s the easy and safe way of dealing with women. And it’s what many guys learn to do as they get older, and begin realizing how much time they have wasted pursuing women who weren’t interested in them.

Of course, the bad thing about nexting a girl is that you don’t get the girl.

And the most common mistake that guys make when employing this strategy is nexting a woman too soon. They flirt with a woman, and she doesn’t flirt back - next. They leave a message on her machine, and she doesn’t call back - next. They plan a date but she calls at the last minute to cancel - next.

In short, they next any woman who doesn’t display immediate high interest.

What’s wrong with this you say?

Well the mistake here is that you’re filtering women based simply upon their initial level of interest in you. You’re filtering women based upon whether they are immediately attracted to you or not.

This is a weak strategy and not one employed by a true Don Juan. It reeks of low confidence, a fragile ego, and fear.

And it’s also a bad strategy.

It’s bad because you’re expecting a woman that you just met, that you may have only talked to for 3 or 4 minutes, or less, to display signs of high interest. You’re expecting some woman that you hardly know, and who hardly knows you, to get excited at the prospect of spending time with you.

Expecting immediate high interest is unrealistic!

Now, of course, it’s possible that this will happen, that she will immediately be overwhelmingly attracted to you... maybe because you are just her type physically, you remind her of someone she used to be crazy about (maybe Uncle Steve), she’s incredibly desperate at the moment, or you were really on top of your game when you approached her and managed to blow her completely out of the water.

All these things are possible, but you shouldn’t rely on them.

You see, when your strategy involves sorting women based upon initial interest levels, you’re placing your entire future into the hands of fate. If she is immediately attracted to you — great! If not — next!

Being a Don Juan is not about sorting women and nexting women. Anyone can sort women based upon their initial attraction levels. That doesn’t take any skill. All that takes is not having a fear of rejection and approaching lots of women... until you happen to luck out and find one who, for some strange unknown reason, is immediately attracted to you.

Being a Don Juan is about getting the women you want. And it’s about taking a woman who has low to moderate interest and, by following a few simple principles, converting that into high interest and, hopefully, an overwhelming desire to see you naked.

Or 2) You can pursue her.

Now the “pursuing” is where it gets tricky and complicated.

You can pursue her in such a way that you come across as being desperate, like most of your fellow Non Juans do, like most guys in this world do. Or you can pursue in such a way that you appear confident, strong, charismatic... like a Don Juan does.

So let’s talk about how a Don Juan pursues women. Let’s talk about the 6 major characteristics of confident persistence.

And remember, Confident Persistence is not just persistence. Confident Persistence is the process of displaying certain personality characteristics which actually make you more attractive to women... as you pursue them.

1) A Don Juan never gets upset.

A Don Juan is always in complete control of his emotions. He doesn’t get mad when a girl fails to return his call. He doesn’t become depressed when she breaks the date. He doesn’t get jealous when she flirts with some other guy. He doesn’t become irate when she doesn’t show up at the restaurant or she shows up late.

He doesn’t react in any of these ways because he expects these little annoyances to occur. He understands that women are flaky. Women are moody. Women are illogical and very inconsistent. (Especially women with low to moderate initial interest.)

He also understands that it’s too early to expect consistent positive behavior.

Remember, these are women who hardly know you. Maybe women you met at the mall, on the street, at a grocery store. They don’t have any reason yet to display signs of high interest. It’s your Don Juan job to give them the reasons. But that takes a little bit of time together.

Now the higher her interest level is, the less flaky, moody, illogical, and inconsistent she behaves. But we don’t really have to “pursue” highly interested women, do we?

2) A Don Juan does not worry about his ego.

Some guys are too worried about getting hurt, too worried about being taken advantage of, too worried about being made a fool of, and too worried that things are going to turn out badly... to be very effective at pursuing women.

A Don Juan does not worry about these things. A Don Juan is not afraid of rejection, he’s not afraid of being used, he’s not afraid of looking foolish, and he’s not afraid of failing.

His self-esteem is high and firmly grounded. He’s happy and loving life. And the actions of a few flaky, moody, and illogical ladies are not going to change that. And it’s this base of high self-esteem that gives him the confidence to pursue women that seem to be not all that interested in him.

You might even say that a Don Juan loves the challenge of peaking a girl’s interest, closing for the phone number, getting the first date, and then converting her low interest into high.

3) A Don Juan is not lazy.

Confident Persistence is not really necessary when the girl is highly interested in us right from the start (in other words, when we luck out). Confident Persistence is necessary when the girl has a low to moderate level of initial interest in us.

So we expect problems. We expect obstacles. We expect that she probably won’t return our call, or that she’ll cancel the date, or that she won’t show up, etc.

And we’re prepared to deal with it. We’re prepared to call again and again (until we get a definite no). We’re prepared to have dates canceled or plans altered (we always have backup plans). We’re prepared for her inconsistent and confusing behavior (and ignore it). And we’re prepared to work our way through all the obstacles, confusion, problems, and other drama in order to get what we want.

Getting women is not always easy. Sometimes we have to work a little bit. But like they say, anything worth having is worth working for.

(Special Note: there are a number of very cool strategies that one can utilize to increase the probability of her giving the number, her calling back, her accepting the date, and her actually showing up. Look for those in a future article.)

4) A Don Juan has options.

One of the main reasons a Don Juan is able to control his emotions, that he doesn’t get upset or worry about things, is that he’s always pursuing numerous women at the same time.

He realizes when he begins his pursuit of any one particular lady, that things may not work out. He may never get her and he’s fully prepared to deal with the situation. So he has other options.

Do you really think you’d sit around worrying, or get upset, or concern yourself with “protecting your ego” if you had a date with Susan on Wednesday, a date with Kelly on Friday, two other women calling you all the time, and a stack of 9 or 10 different phone numbers sitting on your dresser?

Of course not, you’d be relaxed and confident. When a girl doesn’t return your call, it wouldn’t faze you a bit. When she cancels at the last minute, you’d feel like laughing. When you see her flirting with some other guy, you’d kick back and enjoy the show.

This is not to say that you’re a player, or that you don’t prefer one woman over all the others. It’s just that you’re smart enough not to put all your eggs in one basket until you’re positive that she’s puttin all her eggs in there as well.

5) A Don Juan accepts the inevitable games and tests.

The fact that women play games and test men does not make them bad people. It just means that they have lots of options (many guys who are interested in them) and they have had to come up with tests (often administered in a non-conscious fashion) as a way of filtering their pursuers into the Average Guys and the Real Men.

If you follow the basics of being a Don Juan, you will always pass the tests and blow away the competition. So a Don Juan doesn’t worry much about these little tests.

But even if you do, even if you pass the initial tests and she becomes highly interested in you, don’t expect the tests and games to stop. Never expect that things will get logical and easy with women. They won’t.

For example, she may be very very attracted to you and still not return your phone calls, or she might break a date, or flirt with other guys, or some other such thing. Why?

Because she knows, from years of reading Cosmo and discussing “strategy” with her friends, how to play the game. She knows about playing hard to get, hot and cold, social proof, being busy, etc. And when she finds a man that she really really wants (that would be you, Don Juan), by golly, she’s going to use all these little tricks and techniques to try and keep him.

So don’t let it upset or confuse you. Take it as a compliment that she’s putting in all this effort to keep you interested.

6) A Don Juan knows that he’s special.

The entire basis for employing Confident Persistence is knowing that you are, not just a great guy, but the best guy she’s ever going to meet. You know down deep in you soul, that if you could just get a block of her time (a date or two) that you could blow her away and make her forget every other guy she’s ever known.

Beautiful women are everywhere. Go to any mall, or nightclub, or office building, or just walk down a crowded sidewalk. Beautiful women are not that rare. You see them all the time.

But you are rare. You’re a Don Juan. How many guys do you think are Don Juans? How many do you think are really good with women? Well, my friend, it’s very very few. That I know for a fact. But if I had to make an educated guess, I’d say maybe 3 out of 100 guys are good with women, and maybe 1 out of 1000 is Don Juan good with women.

If you keep these numbers in mind, if you keep in mind that the number of drop dead gorgeous women far exceeds the number of Don Juans, you begin to realize that “Hey, I’m the one who’s special here. I’m the guy that all these women are looking for.”

This must be your mindset. This is the mindset of a Don Juan.

To help crystallize the principles of Confident Persistence for you, how bout a real-life example of a Don Juan who regularly employs Confident Persistence to charm the ladies? I’m talking about the man himself, James Bond. (Okay, okay he’s not really real.)

Any Bond fan knows that James does not always have immediate success with the ladies. Sometimes the women are not interested in him, sometimes they despise him, sometimes they’re bitter evil enemies, and sometimes they actually want him dead.

Do these “minor” obstacles ever bother James? No way. Whenever a woman acts like she’s uninterested, despises him, or wishes he were dead, what does he do? He just smiles.

He knows that no woman can resist him... for long. He knows that he’s special. And he employs all of the above principles of Confident Persistence to charm and disarm the ladies.

So when playing the field of beautiful ladies, keep the principles of Confident Persistence in mind: never get upset, forget your ego, don’t be lazy, accept the tests and games, have plenty of options, and, most importantly, always remember that you’re a Don Juan and any lady would be lucky to even have a shot at you.

8 Types Of Women To Avoid When Dating

There are women that man should avoid dating. Here are symptoms to watch out for:

1). Too feminist. This type of woman, and believes it is assumed that man is the cause of all pain and suffering society. It was her strong belief that women are much smarter than men and are able to do things "right way".

Men would not want to spend some time with these types of women, everything you do will always be negative for them. They can never be happy man.

2). Material Girl. It is shortly after the money! These types of women are "high maintenance". Are not only expected, but often require that one should finance her entire life in luxury. To her, man is obliged to pay for dinners, drinks, trips, jewelry, flowers, etc., while they absolutely feel the urge to retaliate or guilt.

Simply put, she is a prostitute in disguise. She is a greedy person who has no perception of the feelings of others and its only interest is to achieve and get what he wants. Never be fooled, some seem to be the first really nice, until they know that you do something for them. He begins to ask for material things!

3). Hopeless romantic. These women live in a perfect world of romance novels, where love and relationships are perfect and her night and shining armor will always come and live happily ever after.
Always been pampered her and "princess" and the idea that what is real life. Will expect the man to take care of her constantly and that all her wishes have, if not, it may prove a bridge screaming.

4). Angry girl. Similar feminist, she really hates men. They often look at people long list of all accounts of injustice and violations of every man, that joint relationship. To her, all people are "goose bumps", "pigs". and jerks. These women are boiling mad at the man who can explode at any given time.

5). Uncertain Miss will seem very pleasant, loving and accommodation on the first treatment of the men very well. Later, when all her innermost feelings of uncertainty up to the surface, it can be uncomfortable calling a man, which dates back at least ten times a day asking where you are, or that just missed his voice.

This woman requires frequent and ongoing assurance that you love her and find her attractive because of this uncertainty, constantly worried about your hair, make-up, clothes etc. She can be clingy and needs constant attention, and urges you worrying about your thoughts that it will soon leave, if you find someone better.

6). Abstract and elusive type. She is romantic, but with a mysterious dark side. She has been hurt in past relationships and it was not over him. These bad experiences way she unconsciously stopover from or damage to her new relationship.

It will be very frustrating to deal with as the first, it will show great interest in man, but flee quickly when the cycle will be repeated again and again. Will date and flirting with a man, but will insist that the two remain friends.

7). Desperate Miss She is desperate to get married. May not even want to know, man, she just wants to trap him and bring him to the nearest altar!

8). Control type. She can be very annoying in a very subtle way, but when the opportunity will direct every phase of human life. She will always "say" what a person wears, where a man must go who should talk to a man who may have a person like my friends, what one can and can not eat, as in everything! One can not insist on its own rights or else, not sex, a lot of crying, screaming, pouting, and everything just man give in.

All people, watch out!

Dating Site Inspired by Women Launches in Australia

Women go “man shopping” and men vie for their attention on MrRight.com.au, the first Australian dating site where women date on their terms. On MrRight.com.au, women add the men they like to their shopping cart to open a communication channel – it’s the only way that men can get in touch. Then, they can send one another messages for as long as they like. If the conversation doesn’t go their way, women can remove men from their cart just as easily to close the channel.

The concept behind MrRight.com.au also works well for men. It allows them to take a step back and let women choose them. Guys no longer need to spend hours browsing through thousands of profiles for the perfect match. They also save time and money sending messages that may never be read. All they need to do is create a profile and keep it online for as long as they’re available and looking.

MrRight.com.au was inspired by women and the stories of their sometimes unpleasant online dating experiences. On traditional dating sites, it only takes a few men behaving badly to spoil everyone’s fun. Internet forums are rife with stories of women receiving aggressive or sexually charged messages from contacts on online dating sites. Likewise, they can also be put off when their inbox is filled with “Pokes”, “Likes” or other short messages.

Matt Right, founder of MrRight.com.au comments: “MrRight.com.au changes online dating as we’ve known since the early 90s. For the first time, women date online on their terms and men compete for their attention. The response we’ve seen from men and women of all ages has been overwhelming”.

Secret Online Dating Tips Revealed

Want to know the secret of successful online dating? Try these tips by Harvard math majors.

OkTrends (blog.okcupid.com) is a blog written by the founders of OkCupid (www.okcupid.com), a free, online dating site that counts 7 million visitors each month.

Every six weeks or so, the bloggers - all former math majors from Harvard - examine the gold mine of dating data collected from their members’ online interactions. They sort and sift, crunch and correlate, catching whatever nuggets of mating wisdom fall out.

Then they post a report of their findings - and the resultant dating tips - often with pop culture references, statistical graphs and pictures of half-naked young men and women.

“It’s our version of an advice column,” Los Angeles Times quoted Sam Yagan, OkCupid’s chief executive.

“We love the fact that our own data tell us what works on a date,” Yagan added.

Even scientists analyse the tips and the results are divided.

“I’m a big fan,” Northwestern University social psychology professor Eli Finkel told Los Angeles Times, adding that the posts are ’generally insightful’.

Viren Swami, co-author of The Psychology of Physical Attraction, was less enthusiastic, saying: ’They could also potentially be very misleading and, at worst, quite far from the truth’.

According to the scientists, women were told to flirt with the camera for their profile photo. If they made what OkCupid called ’flirty-face’, they received on average 1.5 additional messages per month.

That’s because a woman’s smile is well-documented as a signal of sexual interest.

’Flirty smiles trigger what we call men’s sexual over-perception bias,’ said David M. Buss, psychology professor at the University of Texas at Austin and author of ’The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating’.

This advice is only, however, for women. Men were ordered to be aloof on camera. When they did so, they had a roughly 90 per cent success rate with their emails than otherwise.

“There is good evidence that men high in status smile less and that smiling is sometimes interpreted as a sign of submissiveness. Also, some male smiles can look like leers, so it’s good to avoid those,” Buss told the LATimes.

The data also showed that women who took their ’flirty-face’ to the next level by showing a bit of cleavage had better results - vastly better results as they got older.

According to OkCupid, an 18-year-old woman with a cleavage shot in her profile gets 24 percent more contacts per month on average than more demure 18-year-olds.

If she does it at age 32, that jumps to 79 percent more than her buttoned up peers.

“Women’s mate value declines with age,” said Satoshi Kanazawa, evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics, co-author of “Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters’.

But they can compensate for their decline in mate value by showing their cleavage.’

’It’s bait,’ Dr Peter Jonason of the University of South Alabama said.

For men, the inverse is true. Male online daters should show off their six packs in their profile pictures, but only if they are young.

That’s because women in their 30s are less interested in the man’s body than whether or not he will be a good provider, clinical psychologist Marianne Brandon said.

Another tip was both to subtract two inches from the height your potential date claims to be - and 20 per cent from their salary.

For men, the experts said, this makes sense. Height suggests good health and genes; while wealth, obviously, suggests resources. ’Men deceive about their status and income in order to make themselves seem more desirable to women,’ said Dr Buss.

Women, however, may not be lying, Kanazawa argued.

If a woman is trying to get dates online, he argued, she must be having difficulty in real life. That could be because she is Amazonian - both men and women prefer that the man is taller.

They also may have a bigger paycheque than the average man - and the very average man prefers, by and large, to be the one who brings home the bacon, he said.

Dating Site Lets You Virtually Court Your Fantasy Mate

Remember Cloud Girlfriend, that mysterious startup we covered whose tagline was, “The best way to get a girlfriend is to already have one”? Well, it’s finally launched, and we’ve got invites.

The initial conceit of the site, according to founder David Fuhriman, was that it would employ a legion of women to write on men’s walls as “cloud girlfriends,” demonstrating a dude’s popularity to all of his female friends (who would apparently fly into jealous rages over the digital flirting and pounce #SarcMark).

The current iteration of the site is a bit different — what Fuhriman describes as a mix between Match.com and Second Life. Users log in through Facebook and create a profile using a selection of headshots of attractive people (not their own snaps). They then fill out a rather simplistic profile, which allows one to choose between such options as “Books or Movies” (what if you like both?), “Lady Gaga or Lady Di?” (for women only — and there’s no sexual preference options) and “Sunday Church or Sunday Football” (for dudes — apparently it’s church or sports, no in-between).

After looking through a bunch of photos of fake people and their accompanying profiles, you can choose someone to chat with. “We allow people to define their ideal self, find their perfect girlfriend or boyfriend and connect and interact as if that person existed,” Fuhriman says. “It can help in learning how to manage a real relationship, and they then can take it into the real world.” The site makes money by selling virtual gifts and goods.

While we admire Fuhriman’s intentions — he hopes that the site will build confidence and increase sharing and communication (he’s also co-founder of volunteer site 5000Hands) — the whole thing seems a little counterintuitive to us.

By choosing photos that are not, in fact you, the idea could be perceived to be that looks don’t matter. But if that is, in fact, the case, why choose a photo of someone much more attractive than you are in reality when looking to score a date?

The words “ideal” and “perfect” are inherently dangerous when applied to dating and relationships (as rarely anyone is either) — in fact, a recent study by dating site OKCupid shows that women who are more divisive (a.k.a. men find them either ugly or hot) get more attention. Why? Because they let their personality — along with what could be perceived as flaws — shine through.

Why build all your hopes on fantasy when you could get to know a more interesting — albeit flawed — reality?

Still, I guess we can’t really knock it wholly till we try it. Cloud Girlfriend has provided us with 500 invite codes (use the code “mashable”) for men looking to join the site. Apparently, women can join sans code, since the site was initially marketed toward men.

Should Women Lose Weight Before Dating?

In the 17 years I’ve written about dating and relationships, I’ve learned that the most incendiary topic a male journalist can tackle is anything having to do with a woman’s weight.

The issue came up again this week when Cynthia wrote, “I am, 56, divorced and haven’t been on a date in 10 years. I need to lose at least 55 pounds. Do you recommend I do that before I try to meet someone?”

Frankly, I’m a chicken when it comes to voicing my opinion on weight loss and single women because it always gets me in trouble; women are sensitive about their weight. So, I take the easy way out and seek the opinions of women. The weight loss advice pill is easier to swallow when it comes from women instead of me. Here are some of their opinions on Cynthia’s weight-to-date issue.

Jennifer, Irvine, said: “Prior to re-entering the dating world, Cynthia should lose the weight and do whatever else is needed to maximize her appearance. Is she flabby and in need of better muscle tone? Is she saggy and wrinkly and in need of a face lift? Is she gray and needs to color her hair? Are her clothes flattering and up-to-date or does she need a new wardrobe?

“A good appearance will help her put her best foot forward in the dating world. The No. 1 turnoff for men is an overweight woman. When I look at the senior women who have been unable to find a partner, I mainly see a collection of women who are overweight or physically unattractive for one reason or another.”

Can you imagine if those rather direct words had come from me? I’d be deep in the dog house with women who are weight- sensitive.

Jennifer continued, “Women can rant and rave all they like about the superficiality of appearance, but looks remain the first thing that men notice. To deny this is to fly in the face of reality. Men have been this way all their lives, and they remain that way well into old age. Going back into the dating world is a lot like going back into the job market. First impressions are often critically important.

“I suggest Cynthia get more active in local activities. She should get out of the house at least three nights or days a week. She should find a weight-loss program and join an exercise program. She should join clubs and groups that do things she likes to do. Becoming an active, involved person will make her more interesting to people of both sexes.”

Charli, Tustin, said: “I was 72 when I joined Weight Watchers last July and have lost 46 pounds, and I encourage Cynthia to get involved with this program as it is amazing! I am so much thinner; it makes such a difference in my every day outlook.

“I reached my goal weight in January. I look better, have so much more energy, went down six clothes sizes and am having fun shopping for a new wardrobe. I’m happy and even smile a lot more than before.

“I’m at a point where I will go out with my gal friends and even go out by myself, which has been a very big step for me. I’m enjoying life so much more. Every day, I’m thankful that I finally realized I needed to do something for me and that was to be healthy. I am now more confident about meeting men.”

Cheryl, Huntington Beach: “Her health and wellness is everything—perhaps a daily walking routine for starters.”

Karen, Sherman Oaks: “I once weighed 275 pounds, now weigh 107. I agree about the weight being a top priority, because of health issues...plus the fact that she will feel better about herself and look much younger.

“We all know about the dating roller coaster ride. Cynthia needs to be prepared, and realize that it is different today than 10 years ago.”

Merijoe, said: “I’m a 51-year-old nurse; I suggest Cynthia definitely take care of herself before thinking of someone else. If I don’t feel at my best, it shows. If the weight is no issue to her, then rock on.”

Sounds like most women feel Cynthia should wait to date until she loses weight. I agree, but just saying that will get me in trouble again.

Reader comment: Carl, 59, Dana Point: “Women usually don’t venture out alone; there are often up to four out together. They talk to each other, dance together and don’t give much in the way of inviting a man to their table. If you approach them, they usually reject you, having to appear in control and selective. If you are a guy out alone, you appear to be a loser to women and on the prowl.

“If you have a woman with you, you get the smiles and looks as if other women want to see if they can steal you away.

“When you take a lady out on a nice date, rarely will she offer to split the tab or pay the tip. It says a lot about the character of a woman if she at least offers.”

Women Like Dating Men Having Multiple Affairs

Here’s your license to flirt more. A startling new study from the University of Texas, Austin has found that women have a special liking for men having multiple flings with other women rather than having a homosexual affair.

At the same time, men are twice as likely to forgive female partners who cheat them for a lesbian partner rather than cheating them for another man.

According the study findings, published in the journal ’Personality and Individual Differences,’ men are okay with their female partner’s infidelity, unless and until it’s for another girl. However, women are less likely to forgive and forget their boyfriends who dump them for another guy.

The study provides a new insight into the psychological adaptation behind men and women’s desire for a sexual partner. While men desire a variety of partners, women long for a deep commitment in relationships.

“A robust jealousy mechanism is activated in men and women by different types of cues those that threaten paternity in men and those that threaten abandonment in women,” said Jaime Confer, lead author of the study and a doctoral candidate in evolutionary psychology.

Study particulars

In order to reach the study findings, Confer along with her father, Mark Cloud, a psychology professor at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, conducted a study.

For this purpose, they assessed 700 collegians and asked them to imagine if they were in a committed sexual and romantic relationship with someone for three months. The participants were then asked how they would react to their partner’s infidelity.

While some participants were told that their partners were unfaithful with another man, others were told that their partners cheated them for another woman. Likewise, some were told that their partner had one affair, others were told they had multiple affairs.

Study findings

Regardless of the number of partners or number of flings, it was found that men were 50 percent more likely to continue dating women involved in a homosexual relationship, and 22 percent more likely to date a woman who dumped him for another man.

Conversely, women showed a 28 percent likelihood of dating men who have had heterosexual relationships, and 21 percent likelihood of staying with men who had a homosexual affair.

Ms Confer added, “These findings are even more remarkable given that homosexuality attitude surveys show men have more negative attitudes toward homosexuality and to be less supportive of civil rights for same-sex couples than women.”

“However, this general trend of men showing lower tolerance for homosexuality than women is reversed in the one fitness-enhancing situationfemale homosexuality.”

Researchers explain that such a behavior might exist because men view women who are capable of catering to other woman’s needs as more sexually desirable.

“Such an affair may be seen as a sign of dissatisfaction with the current relationship and a prelude to possible abandonment.” Participants were also asked the outcomes of real-life infidelity experiences.

“Results mirrored those of the imagined infidelity scenarios with men significantly more likely than women to have ended their actual relationships following a partner’s heterosexual affair,” she concluded.

Dating With Science On Your Side

By Ian Kerner

Anyone who’s single and dating knows it’s a numbers game. All it takes is one person to set you on the path toward happily ever after - or to give you another dating nightmare story.

But how many dates do you have to go on to find “the one”? And how do you know for sure that once you do meet Mr. or Ms. Right, a more attractive, more compatible prospect won’t pop up right around the corner?

Science can help us streamline the process. Cognitive science all-stars Peter Todd, Ph.D., of Indiana University in Bloomington, and Geoffrey Miller, Ph.D., of the University of New Mexico, used advanced computer simulations to determine the best approach to find lasting love.

Todd and Miller applied a well-known system of hypothetical decision-making called the “secretary problem” to dating. In this situation, a person must pick the best secretary from a group of applicants who appear in random order, drawn from a pool whose quality is not known. Once rejected, applicants cannot be recalled. It’s all about moving forward and making smart choices.

Todd and Miller found that the solution to the secretary problem - and potentially your dating problem - requires sampling a certain proportion of people, remembering the best of them, and then picking the next person who is even better.

So, what’s the magic number? In the secretary problem, the ideal percentage for sampling is 37% of a pool of 100 applicants. That means it would make sense to initially sample 37 people, remember the best of the best, and then pick the next candidate who meets or exceeds that standard.

Now, in the real world of dating there are many, many more prospects than 100 (at last count, there were nearly 100 million singles if you count all ages) and for many of us, even dating just 37 people would be far too tiring. You also might be thinking, “Please! I’ve already dated hundreds of people. I don’t need to sample any more candidates. I’m sampled to death!”

Going back to their advanced computer simulations, Miller and Todd raised the number of potential candidates from 100 to 1,000 and proved, to the relief of singles everywhere, that a little bit of searching indeed goes a long way. According to their research, in a group of 1,000 potential mates, only 1 to 2 percent needs to be sampled.

But you do need to set your “aspiration level” - your ideal mate based on a realistic view of who’s available and whom you can attract - and date those people you consider to be in the top 25%. That means you shouldn’t set your expectations too unrealistically high or low.

In other words, you have to go on roughly 10 first dates, with mates who are within your aspiration level. If after 10 dates there’s someone you want to go back to and he or she is available, then go for it. But give yourself those 10 first dates.

Want some other tips to date with science on your side?

Think before you potentially hop into bed on the first date. According to a poll by the National Opinion Research Center, only 1.4% of married couples had sex within the first two days of meeting. The pursuit of sexual gratification plays heavily into the brain’s reward centers. The more we pursue something, the more we want it.

If you’re really attracted to him or her, go to a dimly lit place and stare into each other’s eyes. Researchers at Stony Brook University found that men and women who stared into each other’s eyes for more than four minutes said they felt unusually attracted to each other. And enlarged pupils are a sign that we like what we see, and a sexual cue to like us back. Dim lighting causes our pupils to widen.

At some point, lean in and take a deep breath. Liking someone’s natural scent is an indication of genetic compatibility.

Be sure to compliment your date. People tend to be most comfortable and to live up to the expectations we place on them. So if you tell dates, “You seem so smart and funny,” they will be smarter and funnier and you’ll see them at their best.

Don’t let your sense of your own attractiveness hold you back. In many studies, men pick women of average weight as their ideal mate as opposed to super-skinny women, and many women find short men who are confident to appear a few inches taller than they actually are.

I personally believe that dating and finding love should be like buying a piece of art - you need to be captivated by someone you want to take home and frame. Yet all too often, we’re walking around with our tiny frames trying to fit people into them. We’re looking for something or someone rather than really seeing. So dismantle the frame, take some risks and give yourself 10 first dates!
